A teen housemate was circumcised yesterday at the pinoy big brother house. I was amazed by the courage of Alex to get circumcised. He was not afraid to let the whole world know about his being uncircumcised.
Circumcision is the removal of some or all of the foreskin (prepuce) from the penis. The word "circumcision" comes from Latin circum (meaning "around") and cædere (meaning "to cut").
Circumcision is most common in the Middle East, the USA and parts of Africa and Asia. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), global estimates suggest that 30% of males have been circumcised.
Here in the Philippines, circumcision is quite an issue. Although surgeons say that there is no medical reason behind circumcision almost every Filipino man wants to get circumcised.
